  • 1 tsp / 2 g Chili Flakes
  • ½ tsp / 1 g Black Pepper
  • 2 tbsp / 32 g Tomato Paste
  • 800 grams Whole Tomatoes Canned

For The Spaghetti

  • 1 tbsp / 18 g Salt
  • 400 grams Spaghetti

Instructions

Saute Garlic, Onion and Vegetables

  • Place a Dutch oven or large pot on the stove over medium-high heat. Pour 3 tbsp of olive oil into the pot.
  • Add 4 cloves of minced garlic and 1 large finely chopped onion to the pot. Saute the garlic and onion for 2-3 minutes.
  • Add 2 sticks of finely chopped celery and 1 medium-sized finely chopped carrot to the pot. Cook for 4-5 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent burning.

Add Minced Beef and Stock

  • Add 500 grams of minced beef(ground beef) to the cooking pot. Cook the beef for 5-6 minutes or until browned.
  • Pour 1 cup of beef stock over the mixture. Cook for another 2-3 minutes while stirring.

Season The Sauce

  • Add 2 bay leaves and 1 tbsp of chopped basil leaves to the pot.
  • Sprinkle 1 tsp of salt and 2 tsp of sugar over the sauce.
  • Season the beef with 1 tsp of oregano, 1 tsp of chili flakes, and ½ tsp of black pepper. Stir well to mix the seasonings.

Add Tomatoes and Simmer

  • Add 2 tbsp of tomato paste and 800 grams of canned whole tomatoes to the cooking pot. Mix the tomatoes and seasonings with the beef mixture.
  • Bring the sauce to a simmer. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and cook for 1 hour. Stir occasionally to prevent the sauce from sticking.

Cook The Spaghetti

  • Place a deep saucepan on the stove and fill it with water. Bring the water to a boil. Cook the spaghetti when the bolognese sauce is nearly finished cooking.
  • Add 1 tbsp of salt to the boiling water and stir to dissolve.
  • Add 400 grams of spaghetti to the water and boil them according to the package instructions. Use tongs to ensure the spaghetti is submerged.
  • Once the spaghetti is cooked, drain and wash them with cold water to stop the cooking process.

Serve and Enjoy!

  • Open the lid of the bolognese sauce and give it a final stir.
  • Place a portion of the spaghetti on the plate and spoon the bolognese sauce generously on top.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy your delicious homemade spaghetti bolognese.
