Prepare The Dipping Sauce
Place a small dish on the table that will serve the dipping sauce with onion rings
Measure out ½ cup of mayonnaise, 2 tbsp of ketchup, 1 tbsp of Dijon mustard and add it to the dish
Add ½ tsp of chili paste and 1 tsp of garlic granules to the mix
Use a small whisk to combine all the ingredients until the sauce is smooth, and set it aside for later use
Prepare The Dry Flour Mixture
Take a mixing bowl to prepare the dry ingredients and add 1 cup of all-purpose flour to it
Measure out ¼ cup of cornstarch and add it to the bowl
Sprinkle ½ tsp of baking powder, 1 tsp of salt, and ½ tsp of black pepper over the flour
Season the mixture with 1 tsp of garlic powder, 1 tsp of paprika powder, and 1 tsp of red chili powder
Use a small whisk to mix all the dry ingredients together
Separate Flour and Make The Batter
Separate 1/3rd of the flour mixture and transfer it to another bowl. This portion will be used to make the batter
Gradually add cold water to the separated portion of the flour mixture
Stir continuously to mix the water with all the ingredients. Keep mixing until there are no lumps and a semi-thick batter forms.
Adjust the amount of water you need to achieve the desired thickness.
Prepare Breadcrumbs
Add 1 cup of panko breadcrumbs to a plate and set it aside. The breadcrumbs will coat the onion rings later.
Cut Onions and Separate The Rings
Take 2 large onions and place them on a chopping board.
Cut the onions into ½-inch rings.
Loosen up the inside of the onion rings with your hand and separate the individual rings.
Remove the inner translucent membrane from each ring.
Coat The Rings
Take an onion ring and dip it into the dry flour mixture first. Make sure the ring gets coated properly.
Use a fork to dip the floured ring into the flour-water batter we prepared earlier.
Finally, transfer the battered onion ring to the panko breadcrumbs and coat it thoroughly.
Repeat the process for each onion ring.
Once coated, transfer the rings to a wire rack and place a pan underneath to catch any drippings.
Fry The Onion Rings
Grab a skillet and put it on the stove over high heat.
Pour cooking oil into the skillet to deep-fry the rings.
Reduce the heat to medium-high and carefully place the onion rings into the skillet one by one.
Fry the rings until the color turns golden brown.
Flip the rings with a fork once one side is cooked.
Transfer the onion rings to a wire rack to cool and drain excess oil.
