Chocolate and cake are my two favorite things in the world. So, when these two treats collide, they bring the best of both worlds in a single, irresistible dessert masterpiece called chocolate brownie!
A chocolate brownie is satisfying and more convenient than baking a cake or just eating a piece of chocolate. With no preheated oven required, you can whip up a delicious brownie in just minutes. It’s a one-bowl recipe which means you can prepare the whole thing in a microwave-friendly mug without needing any cake pans or mixers!
Despite being a simple and time-saving recipe, you have endless opportunities to customize the brownies and thus craft your favorite one every time. From adding chocolate chips to crunchy nuts to colorful sprinkles, you can easily make every brownie uniquely delicious.
You can even swirl in peanut butter, add whipped cream on top, or mix in fruits like raspberries and blueberries for a burst of fruity flavor. Based on your preference, you can try today’s classic chocolate brownie recipe or get creative and bring your favorite add-ons to join the party, making each forkful a pleasant surprise!
What Type Of Cocoa Powder Should Be Use For A Chocolate Brownie In A Mug?
Cocoa powder is the key ingredient in this recipe, which means it plays an important role in determining the flavor and texture of your brownie. Here’s a guideline to help you select the right type of cocoa powder for this recipe:
Determine The Flavor
There are several variations of cocoa powder available on the market. For this recipe, I recommend using unsweetened cocoa powder so that you get full control over the amount of sweetness you want to add to your brownies. The unsweetened version features a rich, chocolate flavor with a hint of slight bitterness.
For people who prefer a milder taste of cocoa powder, sweetened cocoa powder would be an ideal choice for them. The sweetened cocoa powder already contains sugar in them, so make sure to adjust the recipe accordingly. Although this type of cocoa powder reduces your control over the sweetness of the recipe, it simplifies the baking process by eliminating the need to mix in one more ingredient.
If you don’t like the bitterness of the chocolate at all, the Dutch-processed cocoa powder might be a good option to consider for your recipe. This cocoa powder gives your brownie a mild and smooth chocolate flavor without any hint of bitterness.
Look For Purity
There are many brands of cocoa powder available on the market. Try finding a reputed brand that serves high-quality cocoa powder to get the best flavor and texture for this dessert.
Check out the list of ingredients printed on the product’s packaging. It’s best to go for the ones that mention cocoa as the primary ingredient of the product. Any addition of fillers or artificial ingredients may alter the taste of your chocolate brownie.
Opt For Your Desired Color
The color of your brownie may depend largely on what type of cocoa powder you are using.
For example, dutch-processed cocoa powder will give you a darker and more intense color compared to the other ones. As a result, your dessert will have a more sophisticated look with a beautiful rich finish. The unsweetened version will bring a reddish-brown appearance that looks less refined but still delivers the rich, chocolaty look you are looking for.
As for the sweetened cocoa powder, the color will largely depend on how much sugar to cocoa powder ratio they are using. You can expect anything between medium brown to darker shades for your brownie if you decide to use the sweetened cocoa powder.
Tips For Making 1 Minute Microwave Brownie In A Mug Recipe
- Use room temperature ingredients, especially room temperature milk, that will help you to achieve even cooking.
- Measure the ingredients precisely because there is little room for failure. If there is a chance of overflow, always use a large mug.
- Do not overmix the batter; otherwise, the brownie will be rubbery.
- Every microwave oven is different, so keep a close eye on your microwave mug brownie. Do not overcook the microwave brownie; reduce the time it cooks in the microwave.
- Before serving, allow it to cool for 2 to 3 minutes, then add your favorite toppings and enjoy.

Equipments
Instructions
Mix All The Ingredients
- First, in a microwave-safe mug roughly 1 cup measurement.
- Add the sugar, milk, and vanilla essence until the sugar dissolves. (Here, you can also use white granulated sugar instead of brown, but brown sugar gives the brownie a nice chewy texture).
- Then add in the oil, flour, cocoa powder, and the salt.
- Mix all the ingredients until well incorporated.
Microwave Brownie
- Now microwave for 1 minute. (here, I’ve used a 1200w microwave; if yours is different, then the timing may vary. If the microwave you have is less than 1200w, it may take you up to 1.5-2 minutes to cook the brownie).
- Take it out of the microwave oven and let it cool for a couple of minutes.
Serve and Enjoy!
- Let this easy brownie cool down to 3 to 4 minutes.
- Serve the warm brownie with toppings like whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, and enjoy!

What I love most about brownies is just how easy it is to whip them up with minimal preparation. And when I am done enjoying the gooey chocolaty deliciousness, there’s only one mug to clean up. Now, that’s the kind of comfort I crave in my life!
As the dessert is served in the mug it’s prepared in, there’s no need to fuss with slicing pieces for everyone. All you need to do is simply pass around a mug and enjoy the chocolaty goodness together with your friends or family.

Was very good! I tried it the first time and it was super waterery, but when i tried it again it was still a little waterery. Still great recipe. Thanks for sharing. P.S. Can you tell me how to make it less waterery?

Can you put normal sugar instead of brown sugar?
Yes you can.
Just tried this recipe out, I always leave the cup in for longer than the time given… 1.30 was enough time but I felt like it wasn’t up to mark. not sweet enough at all! and the texture was just okay. this is just plain chocolate mug cake if you can even call it that, not anything near to a brownie. I’ve tried better recipes. .
I tried this Apu but my one become very sticky .i also double checked the ingredients. But amar brownie ta bhalo hoche na.plz tell me the reason Apu 🙁😟
Hi apu, This can happen if it’s not cooked properly.
What is your microwave oven wattage? I am using a 1200W microwave and it takes only 1 minute but if you use a lesser wattage microwave then it will take up to 2 minutes to cook properly.
This is super yummy.
