Sprinkles

Sprinkles are a great way to customize butter cookies. The vibrant color and crunchy texture add a sweet and personalized touch to this snack. You can mix sprinkles into the dough or put them on top of the unbaked cookies for a fun outlook.

Chocolate Chips

If you are a chocolate lover like me by any chance, chocolate chips are the perfect toppings for you!

The good thing is that you get to choose from a variety of options, including peanut butter, butterscotch, mint chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate, and many more. Depending on your sweet level(or dark level!), you can use these chips on top of the cookies before they go into the oven for baking.

Nuts

If you are thinking about turning your cookie into a healthy treat, consider adding different types of nuts, including almonds, peanuts, walnuts, pecans, etc., as a topping. You can toast the nuts beforehand to add an extra nutty flavor before chopping them finely and adding to the cookie dough.

Fruits

Fruits are another way of adding sweetness and nutrition to your favorite snack! You can add dried fruits like cranberries, cherries, or raisins as toppings. For a fresh touch of citrus juice, you can add lime, orange, or lemon zest on top of the unbaked cookies.

Shredded coconut is also a great idea to add a tropical vibe to your butter cookies.

Candy

Ah! The kids are gonna go wild for this one! Grab a Snickers or Reese’s candy bar and chop them into small pieces. Add the chocolate chunks to the cookies and see the caramel melting inside the cookies while baking!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup / 227 g Soften Butter.
  • ½ cup / 60 g Powdered Sugar.
  • 2 cups / 250 g All-Purpose Flour.

Instructions

Beat The Butter

  • Measure out 1 cup of softened butter and place it in a mixing bowl.
  • Use an electric beater or stand mixer to beat the butter for 1-2 minutes.
  • Use a spatula to scrape the butter from the sides of the bowl and gather it into the center of the bowl as needed.
  • While beating, continue moving the bowl in a circular motion to ensure that the butter is evenly mixed.

Add Powdered Sugar

  • Add ½ cup of powdered sugar into the bowl.
  • Use the beater to beat the butter and sugar for 5 minutes until the mixture becomes light and fluffy.

Add Flour and Combine Everything

  • Measure out 2 cups of all-purpose flour.
  • Grab a strainer and place it on top of the mixing bowl. Gradually pass the flour through the strainer one cup at a time.
  • Mix flour with the sugar and butter mixture using the beater. Beat gently while scraping from the sides of the bowl to the center until the ingredients are just combined.

Prepare The Dough For Chilling

  • Sprinkle some flour onto a flat surface.
  • Take the butter cookie dough that you just prepared and place it on the floured surface.
  • Dust some more flour on top of the dough and roll it lightly to smooth out its exterior.

Wrap and Chill The Dough

  • Take a piece of plastic wrap and place it onto the surface.
  • Put the dough on top of the plastic wrap and close both ends of the wrapper by twisting to seal the dough.
  • Roll the dough while sealing it to ensure the wrapper is nice and even.
  • Refrigerate the dough for 1 hour or freeze it for 30 minutes.
  • Once chilled, open the plastic wrapper and cut the dough into ½-inch slices.

Bake The Cookies

  • Preheat the oven to prepare the cookies for baking.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place the dough slices on top of it, ensuring there is enough gap between each slice.
  • Bake the cookies for 12-15 minutes at 350 Degrees Fahrenheit or 180 Degrees Celcius in the preheated oven.
  • Once baked, let the cookies cool down to room temperature, take a delicious bite and enjoy!

Life’s too short to save the dessert for the last. If you ask me, I would rather have it first! So, bake these little bites of happiness, grab a coffee, and enjoy the sweet detour from harsh reality with a bite of butter cookies.

Recipe FAQs

If you want chewy cookies that are soft inside instead of crispy, consider reducing the baking time slightly. You can also use brown sugar instead of white sugar to add more moisture to the dough.

If your cookies look flat after baking, you may not have chilled the dough enough before putting them into the oven. Remember to refrigerate the dough for at least 1 hour before baking.

Unsalted Butter is the best choice for this amazing recipe. Every company has its own ratio of salted butter; in terms of unsalted butter, you can adjust the amount of salt you want, and your baking will be perfect every time.

After the cookies have cooled off, place them in an airtight container at room temperature, they will last for about a week.

    • You can use it, but the cookies will be different. Honestly, they will taste good. I will try it with Peanut butter this weekend.
